Notes about our Week

•We continued our inquiry about airplanes and airports.  The children researched many of their questions to find answers to how planes fly, how many seats are on a plane, how many buttons are in the cockpit and many more.

•We continued to make airplanes and measure how far they could fly.

•We read fiction and non-fiction books about airplanes and are learning that fiction books are made-up stories and non-fiction books provide us with information that is true.

•We wrote about what we would pack in our suitcases if we went on a trip.  Some of us thought of essentials like toothbrushes and underwear and others thought of toys and snacks…a few even wanted to pack themselves or their pets!

•We played “Guess my sorting rule” and challenged children to sort things in as many ways as possible.  We challenged them to sort things at home and share what they did at school.  We heard about children helping to sort the laundry, the groceries and their clothes.

•We went on our first hike and used our power of observation to notice things along the trail.

•We thought about questions that we want to learn about and recorded them to use for future learning.

How you can support your child’s learning

•Challenge your child to sort items in a variety of ways (e.g., toys by colour, size, number of wheels, etc.)

•As you read a bedtime story to your child talk about whether the book is fiction or non-fiction and the reasons why.

Important Information

•Volunteers for the trip to the Maple Crisp Apple Orchard need to have their police check or receipt for their police check to the office before our trip on Wednesday.  You will be approved to volunteer after your police check has been submitted.

•We love volunteers!  If you are interested in volunteering in the classroom, we would love to have a volunteer from 12-1:30 to read and play games with the children.  Please send an email if you are able and make sure that you have a valid police check that has been sent into the school office.

•We have a child in our class with a severe nut allergy.  (There are also several teachers and students in our school who have nut allergies).  Please ensure that you are sending nut free foods to school.  If your child consumes nuts, peanuts or peanut butter before coming to school, please ensure that they have brushed their teeth and washed their hands and face before coming to school.  “Wow Butter” and peanut butter alternatives will be not be permitted in the classroom.  Thank you for your cooperation in keeping school a safe place for all children.
