Notes about our week…

•We have been learning about how simple machines help to make work easier.

•We experimented with a variety of materials such as spoons, popsicle sticks, wood planks indoors and outdoors to see how far we could launch pompoms.

•We tested how pulleys make it easier to lift a heavy load.  Thank you to the people who sent in pulleys for us to use!

•We read “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” and then acted out the story in our dramatic play area.

•We read alternative versions of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” such as “Dustilocks and the Three Bears” and “Goatilocks and the Three Bears”.  This inspired some of our students to create their own versions the classic tale.

•We practiced recognizing and creating symmetry.  We built structures at the block centre with symmetry and at the math centre with pattern blocks.

•We experimented with string to create paintings.

•We used problem-solving skills to create masks to role play a story with our friends.

How you can support your child’s learning

•Look for symmetry in objects around your house and in your community.

•When playing with lego or blocks, encourage your child to build something symmetrical.

•Play alphabet and word games to reinforce the skills that the children are learning at school.  Did you know it takes approximately 200-400 times of seeing a word before it become automatic?  That’s why our Stinger Readers have repetitive sentences.

Important Information

•We have a child in our class with a severe nut allergy.  (There are also several teachers and students in our school who have nut allergies).  Please ensure that you are sending nut free foods to school.  If your child consumes nuts, peanuts or peanut butter before coming to school, please ensure that they have brushed their teeth and washed their hands and face before coming to school.  “Wow Butter” and peanut butter alternatives will be not be permitted in the classroom.  Thank you for your cooperation in keeping school a safe place for all children.
