Notes about our Week

•We compared the sizes of toys that we brought from home and practiced measuring with a variety of tools such as blocks, marker lids, feet, etc.

•We read the story “A Leaf Blew In” and practiced retelling the story together and with a friend.  One of the children had a book at home that was similar so we  read it together and made comparisons.  Some of us even made our own book that was similar.

•We began designing and constructing our houses.  We are using our plans to figure out what we need to do to make our house (e.g., painting, cutting).  We are even making little characters for inside.

•While outdoors this week, our focus was on identifying shapes in our schoolyard and making shapes with the materials that we have.

How you can support your child’s learning

•Go for a walk with your child in your neighbourhood and see how many shapes that they can find.

•Please have your child read their Stinger reader to you each night.  Frequent reading will help your child become familiar with high-frequency words.

•Please remember to send your child’s Library and Stinger Reader bag to school every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday so they can participate in book exchanges.

Important Information

•We love volunteers!  If you are interested in volunteering in the classroom, we would love to have a volunteer from 12-1:30 to read and play games with the children.  Please send an email if you are able and make sure that you have a valid police check that has been sent into the school office.

•We have a child in our class with a severe nut allergy.  (There are also several teachers and students in our school who have nut allergies).  Please ensure that you are sending nut free foods to school.  If your child consumes nuts, peanuts or peanut butter before coming to school, please ensure that they have brushed their teeth and washed their hands and face before coming to school.  “Wow Butter” and peanut butter alternatives will be not be permitted in the classroom.  Thank you for your cooperation in keeping school a safe place for all children.
