Notes about our Week

•We read many rhyming books.  Some of our friends brought in rhyming books for us to read together.

•We had a Rhyme Crime committed in our classs.  Many items were taken and replaced with a rhyme.  But don’t worry, we solved the crime!  Ask your child about this.

•Several children were inspired by activities that they had done with their grandma’s on the weekend and taught us how to make gingerbread people and paper candy canes.

•We have been building buildings and playscape to play with.

•We created a pizza shop outside and carried that play over to the dramatic play centre indoors.  We were baking and serving pizza all day!

•We wrote about the “awesome” things that we found on our hike last week.

•We attempted challenges with pattern blocks.

Do you have any flyers that we could use for an activity at school (e.g., Toy R Us, Walmart, grocery store)?

Our class is Christmas crazy!  We have already found a Christmas tree, but if you have extra Christmas decorations that you are no longer using, we would love to add them to our block centre for the month of December.

How you can support your child’s learning

•Find rhyming books to read together.  Have your child predict what the rhyming word might be.

•Try to make up silly or real rhyming words for thing around your house as you play and clean or while you go for a walk.

•Go for a hike on the Health Valley Trail and ask your child to show you where our meeting spot is.

•Please have your child read their Stinger reader to you each night.  Frequent reading will help your child become familiar with high-frequency words.

•Please remember to send your child’s Library and Stinger Reader bag to school every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday so they can participate in book exchanges.

Important Information

•We love volunteers!  If you are interested in volunteering in the classroom, we would love to have a volunteer from 12-1:30 to read and play games with the children.  Please send an email if you are able and make sure that you have a valid police check that has been sent into the school office.

•We have a child in our class with a severe nut allergy.  (There are also several teachers and students in our school who have nut allergies).  Please ensure that you are sending nut free foods to school.  If your child consumes nuts, peanuts or peanut butter before coming to school, please ensure that they have brushed their teeth and washed their hands and face before coming to school.  “Wow Butter” and peanut butter alternatives will be not be permitted in the classroom.  Thank you for your cooperation in keeping school a safe place for all children.
