Forest School starting 🌳🌲

Each kindergarten class at Bridgeport will be participating in Forest School once a week.  We will be visiting Bechtel Park from 9:15 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. We plan to go on Day 4s. Students will place a label on their shirt the day before to let families know when we are going. […]

We love Forest School!

We have been enjoying visiting Bechtel Park each week to see the changes in the forest from summer to fall. We have noticed that leaves are changing, animals are getting ready for winter and the weather is getting cooler. Some students found this log that looked like it had little pathways all over it. There […]

Forest School – Tracks

We were on the look out for winter seedheads and animal tracks in the snow during our visit to Forest School.  We found teeny tiny tracks that went into a small hole and the students had many ideas about what had made them…maybe ants or rabbits. We talked about why it could or couldn’t be those […]

We love Forest School!

We have had lovely weather to enjoy Forest School each week.  We used our scientist eyes and ears to observe in the forest.  We have found bugs, birds and squirrels.  We are noticing how the forest is changing from summer to autumn. There are still mosquitoes so please put bug spray on your child before […]

Forest School is starting!

We will have our first Forest School experience on Tuesday, September 25.  Please make sure your child comes dressed for the weather and the long walk.  This includes long pants, waterproof footwear, sunhat, sunscreen and bug spray.

Ducks in the Kinder-Garden!

Our resident duck seems to have returned to the tire in the Kinder-Garden.  We are excited to see how many eggs she lays this year! She comes each night to lay an egg and then is gone each day (we’re guessing 100 kindergartens is a little too much to take!).

Snow has come to Forest School

With changing seasons come opportunities to see new and different things in the forest. We predict whether water (e.g., Laurel Creek, streams, puddles) will be frozen or not. We see signs of animal activity, like these raccoon prints on the ice over the stream.  Some students thought the prints looked like monkeys because you can […]

Animals in Winter

We have been learning about animals in winter. They migrate, hibernate or adapt.  We have read books, watched video clips and shared our forest school knowledge. Students have illustrated their learning on our bulletin board.

Thank you Room 22 Families!!

We are very blessed with the many kind families in Room 22.  Thank you for the generous donations of sleds and shovels! Now that the snow is here, we have lots of things to keep us busy, happy and learning in the outdoors. Remember to dress your child to be comfortable outside.  We begin every day outside […]

Spring in the Forest

We were on the look out for signs of spring today at Forest School. We saw and heard LOTS of birds. Unfortunately, now that the snow is gone we also found lots of garbage but we helped the Earth by picking some up and putting it in the garbage. Most of the forest was brown […]
