We have been enjoying visiting Bechtel Park each week to see the changes in the forest from summer to fall.

We have noticed that leaves are changing, animals are getting ready for winter and the weather is getting cooler.

Some students found this log that looked like it had little pathways all over it. There were lots of good predictions about how it happened. We found out that some bugs eat wood and leave these marks as they travel and eat between the bark and the wood.

Laurel Creek runs through Bechtel park. We talked about animals that might use the water to find food, swim in or live in.

We found this little guy under an old, rotting log. Β It is a eastern red-backed salamander. They eat worms, insects and other small invertebrates found on the forest floor.
