We are learning about length. Students were engaged in measuring activities around the classroom and we talked about objects beingΒ longer, shorter or the same as other objects. One of our favourite activities was to measure how tall we are and how it compares to others in our classroom. Brennan, our co-op student, was the tallest. […]

We have been learning about graphing. We have been asking our friends questions about their favourite things (e.g., stone soup ingredient, pizza toppings, ways to travel) and then looking at the data and talking about which has the most, the least and if any are the same. Graphing isΒ a great way to engage children […]

This year students have been involved in learning about numbers from 0 to 10. Β We learn about the many different ways that numbers can be represented: words, clock, money, ordinals (first, second, third), odd/even, dot plates, and using a rekenrek. Β Ask your child if they can tell you more about these math tools. We created […]

Students have been engaged in activities involving three-dimensional figures. 3D figures are fat (e.g., having length, width and depth). They have sorted them according to attributes such as number of sides, number of edges (where two faces come together), number of vertices (points), types of edges (e.g., straight, curved).Β Students had the opportunity to participate […]

Students have been learning about adding. We have used a variety of math manipulatives (e.g., double sided counters, mini motors, pompoms) in the classroom to practice our adding. Shake and Spill has been one of the favourites. Students place the counters in a cup, shake the cup, spill the counters on the table and then […]
