I hope everyone had a lovely sunshine filled Mother’s Day!

This week I will be assessing reading levels during our independent reading time.   When I am finished I will send home a note with your child’s reading level on it.  If your child was already at level 30 the last time I assessed reading then you won’t be receiving the note.   Remember that on the final report card the reading mark is a lot more than just how well your child can decode the words.   I am looking at how well they use the comprehension strategies we have worked on this term as well as written and oral reading responses.   When responding to a text, students need to use evidence from the text.  They should also be making connections and inferences etc.

Our words of the week:  product, row, column, division, divisible

In writing, we will continue writing to our favourite authors.  On Friday we looked at sample letters that were graded level 1, 2, 3 and 4.  We talked about each one and why it was given that mark.  We are working towards a level 3 or 4 mark on this letter.  We have a list of success criteria to follow and use in our writing.

Learning Goals: I will use a planning web to develop and organize my ideas for writing.

I will write a letter to my favourite author.  I will edit and revise my letter before writing a final copy.

The purpose of my letter is clear.  I have used voice in my writing.  I have used a variety of sentences types.
My letter has a beginning, middle and end.
