Process for Accelerated Level 1 OYAP
- Conestoga College only purchases a few seats in each of the eight trades for high school apprentices. The selection process to fill these seats is competitive and available to eligible student apprentices in 6 school boards.
- Students complete an interest/application form (see guidance counsellors).
- We will come out to meet eligible students at their home school in October.
- Selected eligible students must attend an interview with Conestoga College.
- Based on the interview, Conestoga College will select students and offer them a seat in the program.
- Students start Co-op at their homeschool in February
- In-class session start dates vary depending on the trade. Students will pause their Co-op placement to attend their apprenticeship in-class session for 8 weeks.
- Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship classes, students will receive a report from Conestoga College that is recognized by the MILTSD and the industry. Their grades will also be transferred to their secondary school transcript where the credits will count as two electives towards their OSSD.
- After the 8 weeks students return to their placement to finish out the school year and to continue earning hours toward their apprenticeship.
