The 5 Golden Rules

1. Move centre Pawn first.

2. Knight before Bishop.

3. Don’t move the same piece twice.

4. Build a castle wall to protect the king.

5. Do not move the “f” Pawn early. Protect the “f” Pawn.

 

5 More Golden Rules

1. Do not move the Queen too early.

2. Develop all of your pieces.

3. Choose the best move.

4. Attack the piece that bothers you the most.

5. Aim everything at their King.  If you cannot than target their Queen. If you cannot aim at King or Queen, aim at the Castle wall.

 

Tactics!

– Forks attack two ore more of their pieces with one of yours.

– A Pin locks a good piece to another good piece behind it.

– If a Pin is not absolute, then the pinned piece can move, so you can get the piece behind it.  This is an X-ray or a Skewer.

– A Discovery is when you move a piece to find another attack.

– Any Pawn that makes it to the other side must promote to any piece except a King.

 

More Tactics!

– A Double Attack aims two of your pieces at one of their pieces.

– A Decoy lures a piece away from protecting a piece you want to get.

– A Windmill consists of a Discovered Check followed by a normal Check followed by another Discovered Check.

– Build your attack! Two pieces aiming at the “f” Pawn is a Double Attack.  Three pieces is a Triple Attack!
