If your child is mixing up ‘b’ and ‘d’, I encourage you to try this trick. Have your child do two thumbs up and sing the alphabet to ‘d’ – shaking the left thumb up when you say ‘b’ and the right thumb up when you say ‘d.’ This is a quick strategy that can be used anywhere when reading. When writing a ‘b’ simply ask your child to start by making an ‘h’ and then turn it into a ‘b’ at the last minute. Some students find it tricky to draw a proper ‘b’ and do it as if they are writing the number 6.
