Congratulations on being selected for the OYAP Level 1 program. There are a number of things we need to do ahead of time to prepare for semester 2 and your Level 1 classes. Follow the steps below.
Next Steps
Talk to your employer
The MLITSD needs to know you are being signed as an apprentice with your employer. We recommend you reach out to your employer sooner than later to let them know the registration process is starting. We want them to be aware they will be contacted by the WRDSB and the MLITSD about signing a Registered Training Agreement (RTA).
Registering at Conestoga College
I do this for you
- I use the information you submitted on the application so let me know if anything might have changed (eg. address)
- This takes Conestoga a few weeks
- Once complete, I will send you your Conestoga ID, Password, email
- If at any time you get an email from Conestoga College please let me know
Registering at the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development
You do this – but we help
1. OYAP Form
- Complete this OYAP Registration form
- You must complete all sections on all 3 pages and signatures/dates on pages 2 and 3
- On Page 2: Leave “Start Date”, “End Date”, and “Hours per Week” blank and we will follow up with your COOP teacher in February.
- If you are under 18, do this with a parent so they can sign as well.
- Your employer does not need to sign this form BUT you must include their current info and contact
- Email the completed form to Ryan
You can fill out the form entirely electronically, including the signatures, which is preferable. If you print it out and complete it by hand, IT MUST BE NEAT AND LEGIBLE and SCANNED (no photos). Here is a video on how to do this on a Chromebook.
2. SIN Number Verification
- Monitor your inbox for an email from David Pope or Stephanie Kuntz. They are central WRDSB OYAP staff and will need to connect with you and will ask you to verify your SIN number. They will need to see either your SIN card or SIN paper.
3. RTA Signatures
- Once your SIN is verified the MLITSD generates your Registered Training Agreement and sends this to you and your employer
- This must be signed by all parties (parents as well if you are under 18) by the deadline provided or you will lose your seat
The RTA and OYAP forms are government documents and are legal agreements. The people on the school board and government end are working hard to help you get your apprenticeship started. Please take care to do these steps quickly and carefully.
