Accounting is the common language of business and organizations.

This course introduces students to the fundamental principles and procedures of accounting. Students will develop financial analysis and decision-making skills that will assist them in future studies and/or career opportunities in any business or organization. Students will acquire an understanding of accounting for a service and a merchandising business, computerized accounting, financial analysis, and the business ethics and current issues in accounting.

Big ideas include the necessity for recording transactions, the use of debit and credit theory, using worksheets and the preparation of financial statements which can be read and understood by owners, bankers, investors and government tax experts.  Students will use an online accounting software package while completing the summative project playing…Monopoly!

While a grade 11 course, it can be taken in grade 10.
