Today we’re starting to work on our build-your-own sound device.

For this Science project, we’re using our technological problem-solving skills to create a device that either absorbs or reflects sound waves. We’ll be testing our devices by placing a smartphone inside and playing music.

Students can choose to make an absorbing or reflecting device.

In class, we’re using this Planning Page to first plan our device. I’ll be using this Sound Project Rubric we created as a class to mark the finished project. Students have been reminded that most of the marks come from knowing how and why the device works, not on how fancy it looks. The device can be very simple, and still work well!

Our project is due on Wednesday, February 7, 2018.

Students are welcome to begin collecting materials or working on their devices at home this weekend if they’d like!

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out and ask!
