Hello Parents and Guardians

November is flown past and it has been a busy time in room 2. Thanks to all of you who make sure our students are here at school fed and well rested with a positive attitude about learning.

We have been learning lots about 3-D figures and visualizing how these figures are put together, Students have been using a variety of strategies to solve double digit addition and subtraction problems. Students are now able to use a few different strategies to add and subtract. We are also looking at how to use the standard algorithm to help solve these problems.

Guided Reading is taking a bit of a break as we are all reading Horrible Harry and the Holidaze. It is a short chapter book that looks at a few different winter celebrations from different traditions. This is a good way to introduce the students to the variety of cultures around them. Our field trip on December 4th will also focus on different winter celebrations. We are looking forward to the Waterloo Region Museum. We have written Santa Letters and submitted them to the New Hamburg Independent – look for them to be published in the December 18th addition of the paper.

Winter concert preparations are well underway. Students in grade 2 will be joining the grade 1’s to sing a piece in french. We will also do one of our own songs and Mrs. Witzke is working hard in music to prepare them for a mass choir too. There will be 2 performances this year one at the school at 10 am and one at Bethel at 7 pm. The concert date is Thursday December 12th. The school performance has limited seating so if you can come to the evening performance it is encouraged.

I am planning to build gingerbread houses in the classroom and would welcome some extra volunteer support. We will be building the house on Wednesday December 11th at 10am and decorating them on Friday December 13th at 10am. Please let me know if you can help either of those times.

Scholastic orders will be due December 6th – So we can have the books in time for the holidays.

Thanks so much for your continued support
