Mr. James Landon, OCT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Early Years<\/strong>
\nI was born, raised and live in Cambridge. \u00a0I attended Chalmers Street P.S. not too far from here for Kindergarten to grade 5. \u00a0It is pure coincidence that I spent the first 8 years of my career teaching there! I also attended Stewart Avenue and Glenview. I’m local, through and through!<\/p>\n

Family<\/strong>
\nI have an older brother named Todd and a younger brother Craig, so that makes me the “monkey in the middle.” My mom, Nancy, stayed at home to raise three boys until we were in school. \u00a0She is retired after working in a school, just like me! \u00a0My dad, Ken, is also retired after working as a laboratory technician for the same firm for 47 years!<\/p>\n

I am uncle to four nephews: Kade is starting grade 8 this year; Kian is starting grade 6;\u00a0 Preston is starting grade 4; and Cooper is about 9 months old.\u00a0 I am also an uncle to one niece, Myah, who is in her second year of\u00a0 university.<\/p>\n

Since I was 5, there has always been at least one cat living in my family’s home. \u00a0Even now, in my own home, I have a cat named Percy. \u00a0He is an indoor cat but loves to hang out in my garden, get petted, play fight, meow A LOT, sleep, and shed his fur all over my house.<\/p>\n

Education<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n
I attended the University of Waterloo, where I enjoyed studying and earned a degree in, history and international studies. \u00a0I really like learning about the past and how past actions, events and decisions have impacted today’s world. \u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
Though I liked studying history, career choices related to it seemed kind of boring to me. \u00a0Working with kids is far more exciting to me, so I wanted to become a teacher. \u00a0I attended the University of Ottawa and earned my education degree.<\/span><\/div>\n

Career<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n
I started working in the Waterloo Region District School Board in 2002 as an occasional teacher. \u00a0In 2004, I accepted a position teaching at Chalmers Street, the same school I went to as a student! \u00a0I spent 8 awesome years at Chalmers Street. \u00a0In 2012 I joined the new Moffat Creek community.\u00a0 This fall, I am starting my second year working with the staff and students at Elgin Street!<\/span><\/div>\n

Professional Development<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n
The more you know, the more there is to learn. \u00a0The teaching profession is no exception. \u00a0Through attending various courses, I have had the opportunity to study the latest research, theories and practices related to teaching Reading, differentiating instruction for all students, designing motivation in the classroom, fostering collaborative inquiry for students, teaching acceptance of responsibility, classroom management, adapting my teaching to fit various learning styles, and how to encourage possibility thinking in my classroom, as well as various technology-based teaching applications.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
