Early Years
I was born, raised and live in Cambridge.  I attended Chalmers Street P.S. not too far from here for Kindergarten to grade 5.  It is pure coincidence that I spent the first 8 years of my career teaching there! I also attended Stewart Avenue and Glenview. I’m local, through and through!

Family
I have an older brother named Todd and a younger brother Craig.  I am the monkey in the middle.  My mom, Nancy, stayed at home to raise three boys until we were in school.  She is retired after working in a school, just like me!  My dad, Ken, is also retired after working as a laboratory technician for the same firm for 47 years!

I am uncle to three nephews: Kade is starting grade 7 this year; Kian is starting grade 5; and Preston is starting grade 3.  Kade, Kian and Preston also have another brother on the way, expected this December! I am also an uncle to one niece, Myah, who is starting university!

Since I was 5, there has always been at least one cat living in my family’s home.  Even now, in my own home, I have a cat named Percy.  He is an indoor cat but loves to hang out in my garden, get petted, play fight, meow A LOT, sleep, and shed his fur all over my house.

Education
I attended the University of Waterloo, where I enjoyed studying and earned a degree in, history and international studies.  I really like learning about the past and how past actions, events and decisions have impacted today’s world.  
Though I liked studying history, career choices related to it seemed kind of boring to me.  Working with kids is far more exciting to me, so I wanted to become a teacher.  I attended the University of Ottawa and earned my education degree.
Career
I started working in the Waterloo Region District School Board in 2002 as an occasional teacher.  In 2004, I accepted a position teaching at Chalmers Street, the same school I went to as a student!  I spent 8 awesome years at Chalmers Street.  In 2012 I joined the new Moffat Creek community.  This Spring, I opted for a change and am happy to join and work with the staff and students at Elgin Street!
Professional Development
The more you know, the more there is to learn.  The teaching profession is no exception.  Through attending various courses, I have had the opportunity to study the latest research, theories and practices related to teaching Reading, differentiating instruction for all students, designing motivation in the classroom, fostering collaborative inquiry for students, teaching acceptance of responsibility, classroom management, adapting my teaching to fit various learning styles, and how to encourage possibility thinking in my classroom, as well as various technology-based teaching applications.
