For the school year 2019-20

This assignment involves selecting a novel to challenge yourself, reading it and preparing an essay on a thematic subject.  You will remember how to write a wise theme statement because we have done them for our ROMEO AND JULIET unit.

To be successful on this project, you want to choose a good book.  Consider these rules and suggestions when selecting your ISU book.

The book may NOT

-be made into a film or have any film plans at least through 2021.

-be one you have previously read

-be one that English students read in any course

The book should

–be thoughtful and have enough “meat” that you can write a decent essay about its message

-challenge you as a reader.  That doesn’t mean it has to be totally, impossibly hard, just that it needs to be sufficiently difficult that you will have something to think about as you read.
