Learning skills will be evaluated throughout the year in the following six categories: Responsibility, Independent Work, Organization, Initiative, Collaboration and Self-Regulation.  Students will receive an E for excellent (at EVERY opportunity), G for good (generally), S for satisfactory (sometimes), or N for needs improvement (nearly never).  Developing these skills will help maximize overall achievement.  Below is a brief explanation of each of the Learning Skills.

 

Independent Work

  • Do you follow instructions (verbal and written)?
  • Do you independently monitor, assess, and revise plans to complete tasks?
  • Do you use your time effectively?
  • Do you work without disturbing those around you?
Responsibility

  • Do you fulfill all of your commitments and responsibilities within the learning environment?
  • Do you complete and submit all class work, homework and assignments according to agreed upon timelines?
  • Do you take responsibility for and manage your own behaviour?

 

Organization

  • Are you prepared for class (textbook, notebook, pen/pencil, calculator)?
  • Do you make and follow a plan/process for completing work and tasks?
  • Do you establish priorities and manage your time to complete tasks and achieve goals?
Initiative

  • Do you look for and act on new ideas and opportunities for learning?
  • Do you demonstrate the capacity for innovation and a willingness to take risks?
  • Do you demonstrate curiosity and interest in learning?
  • Do you approach new tasks with a positive attitude?
  • Do you make arrangements to get caught up on missed assignments/ homework?

 

Collaboration

  • Do you show respect for others and their ideas, opinions and values?
  • Do you contribute to the lesson / group activity?
  • Do you do your share of the work when assigned to a group?
  • Do you work well with others to resolve conflicts and built consensus to achieve group goals?
Self-regulation

  • Do you set individual goals and monitor your progress towards achieving them?
  • Do you seek extra help when you need it?
  • Do you assess and reflect critically on your own strengths, needs, and interests?
  • Do you identify learning opportunities, choices, and strategies to meet personal needs and achieve goals?
  • Do you persevere and try your best when faced with a challenge?
